TLT to move into new fully sustainable office development in Glasgow

UK law firm TLT is set to move into the top floor of Cadworks, Glasgow’s flagship sustainable office development and the first net-zero office building in the city.

Cadworks provides the perfect place for the firm’s first concept office to help shape its working environment nationally. The move to Cadworks will play a central part in supporting the firm’s new fully flexible working approach, TLT World.

The space will be the first of the firm’s six UK offices designed from scratch to support agile working, with facilities and tech enabling employees to mix remote working with time in the office. The design also places employee wellness and space to collaborate onsite with clients at the centre of its plans.

TLT’s new Glasgow office is an integral part of its multi-million pound development and a key part of reimagining how legal services are delivered. Since its launch, TLT World has already had great success in improving diversity in senior roles and helping TLT reach 30% female representation at partner level.

John Paul Sheridan, partner and head of location in Scotland at TLT, commented: “When we launched TLT World, we acknowledged that no working life and personal life is the same. The new working approach allows our employees to decide when and where they work in line with their needs and the needs of their clients. Cadworks provides the perfect place for employees to fully embrace flexible working.

John Paul Sheridan: “Cadworks’ commitments to environment and social responsibility align seamlessly with our own”

“The space boasts a large communal area ideal for meetings and also features hot desking throughout the office area. It has a number of areas to support all types of working with colleagues and clients such as a café, one-to-one meeting rooms and quiet focus pods. We’ve also invested in technology upgrades including next generation technology-led hybrid meetings to support home-to-office interactions. The office is entirely connected to ensure ease of transition from space to space.”

Sustainability and environmental progress

Sustainability is a core part of TLT’s approach. One of the firm’s objectives is to inspire positive transformation in the business, working with and learning from its people, clients and wider network. Being one of Glasgow’s first new zero-carbon buildings and one of the most sustainable buildings in Scotland, Cadworks will mark an important step in TLT’s sustainability journey.

The building was constructed using sustainable materials such as air purifying paint, up to 41% recycled glass, 100% FSC recycled timber, and up to 80% recycled content steel. It also boasts an array of features that will contribute towards reducing carbon emissions including a 100% all-renewable energy supply, air source heat pumps to provide heating and EV car charging points. The building also offers easy bike access via a dedicated ramp, as well as a cycle park with 119 bike stations, which will aim to encourage employees to play their part in reducing their carbon footprint by cycling to work.

Sheridan, said: “When looking for a new office for our team in Scotland, it was important for us to find a space that would reflect our core values and help us achieve our organisational objectives. Cadworks’ commitments to environment and social responsibility align seamlessly with our own, making it the perfect space for the firm, its employees and its clients. We’re delighted to have moved into our new office and look forward to working in tandem with Cadworks to achieve our respective goals.”

Maria Connolly, partner and executive board sponsor for TLT’s sustainability strategy, commented: “The move to Cadworks plays a significant part in our sustainability strategy. The design of the office, alongside the vision of the wider positive social impact developments like this can have, mirror our own strategic and business priorities. I’m proud that we will be working together with Cadworks. The move into their office space will not only allow us to connect with the local community and have a positive social impact, it will also permit us to take a step closer towards achieving our sustainability goals.”

The firm recently announced a partnership with leading sustainability and climate change advisers Carbon Intelligence in 2021 to progress its ambitious sustainability programme, of which the move to Cadworks is part.

FORE, the partnership behind the development of Cadworks, is a leading real estate developer in Glasgow, and as a certified B Corporation, is committed to environmental stewardship and social impact, working for the benefit of all stakeholders. It is driven to help Glasgow’s most vulnerable communities through its projects. In addition to being a B Corp, FORE has made an industry-leading pledge for its business and operations to be net zero carbon by 2025.

The office move is part of TLT’s ongoing commitment to investing in Scotland and also part of the firm’s growth trajectory. That investment has seen it broaden its offer with a number of lateral hires in the last few years, including the recent appointment of partner and business immigration specialist Joanne Hennessy.

John Paul stated: “Our culture is focused on providing the support, space and flexibility for our people to do their best work. We designed the office from scratch, taking into account the needs of our employees. I’m confident it will have a huge impact on the wellbeing and performance of the entire team in Glasgow.”
