The symbiotic role of business events and hospitality in Edinburgh’s growth

The McLellan Room provides an intimate setting for up to 13 guests

Edinburgh’s hospitality industry is intertwined with its local business events sector.

Recent discussions around changes to the city’s business event infrastructure have brought renewed focus on the importance of venues such as Hawksmoor in supporting not only the city’s economy but also its community.

Business events, conferences, and corporate gatherings are far more than just transactions; they represent a connection between people, ideas and the local community.

The importance of this cannot be overstated. We have seen first-hand the impact that these events can have on Edinburgh’s standing as a global business hub, but we also recognise the importance of supporting local communities and initiatives.

Business events are not just gatherings – they’re essential economic drivers that feed into a city-wide ecosystem. For Hawksmoor, these events have become an integral part of our business, allowing us to create spaces where professionals can connect, collaborate, and solidify relationships as well as eat some of Scotland’s best steaks and seafood.

Corporate events held at venues such as Hawksmoor are about more than the business conducted in the room, they’re an opportunity to contribute to something bigger.

Every delegate who attends a conference or corporate gathering becomes part of a larger network that supports suppliers, generates employment, and contributes to the vibrancy of the city.

This connection between the business community and Edinburgh’s local environment is at the heart of what we do.

At Hawksmoor, we believe that being a purpose-driven business means going beyond offering exceptional service.

It’s about making choices that support sustainability, the community, and the wider environment. From sourcing our ingredients from local, sustainable producers to ensuring we contribute meaningfully to the economy, our focus is on leaving a positive legacy with every event we host.

Our two private dining rooms exemplify how hospitality venues can elevate business events. These spaces are designed for corporate functions where professionalism, comfort, and privacy are paramount.

The Tellers’ Room, capable of seating up to 48 guests, is a light-filled space that combines elegance with the charm of Hawksmoor’s historic surroundings. It is ideal for larger meetings or celebratory dinners.

The McLellan Room, a nod to one of Scotland’s great artists, Sadie McLellan, provides an intimate setting for up to 13 guests – perfect for board meetings or exclusive client dinners. Both rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art AV technology, ensuring smooth operations for presentations and events.

What sets these spaces apart is not just their aesthetic appeal but the attention to detail in creating an environment where productive, meaningful business interactions can take place.

Business events are not just gatherings – they’re essential economic drivers

Whether it’s a strategic discussion or a high-profile client meeting, we strive to offer an experience that aligns with the professionalism of our clients’ brands.

As Edinburgh’s status as a business destination grows, it is vital that investment in the infrastructure supporting these events continues.  The convention bureau plays a crucial role in attracting high-profile conferences that, in turn, drive business to venues such as Hawksmoor.

The relationship between the city’s event organisers and hospitality venues is symbiotic: one feeds into the other, creating a virtuous cycle that boosts both Edinburgh’s economy and its global standing.

Edinburgh’s success in attracting international conferences is tied to how well the city’s businesses, including hospitality venues, deliver on their promises of excellence.

For Hawksmoor, it is about more than food or service – it is about reinforcing the city’s reputation as a place where business gets done.
