CPI, a leading independent technology innovation centre and a founding member of the UK Government’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult, has joined the YewMaker-led Sustainable Medicines Partnership (SMP) to improve the sustainability of medicines, their manufacturing and associated supply chains.
The SMP is a not-for-profit, private-public collaboration executing projects to make the use of medicines more sustainable and less wasteful.
CPI accelerates the development, scale-up and commercialisation of deep tech and sustainable manufacturing solutions, including next-generation medicine manufacturing innovations, offering world-leading facilities and expertise in small molecules, biologics, and complex medicines.
Home to the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre in Renfrewshire, CPI is creating agile, efficient, and sustainable supply chains by convening actors across the pharma industry ecosystem in a pre-competitive space and boosting adoption of industry 4.0 digitisation.
In its collaboration with the SMP, the CPI-led Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre will help the global pharma ecosystem adopt novel technologies and processes to improve the sustainability of medicines, their manufacturing and associated supply chains.
Dave Tudor, managing director of the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, said: “We’re excited to join the SMP as we have a shared vision to improve sustainability through innovation. CPI’s technical programmes and ‘Grand Challenges’ are helping to bring new pharma innovations to market and reduce costs and waste within the industry.
“CPI, alongside SMP and its wide set of collaborators, will provide a significant impact on the sustainability of medicines globally and in the UK.
“This partnership will help us deliver cost productivity and compliance improvement, but the icing on the cake is that we can also reduce the carbon footprint because we’re coming up with new and cheaper, more digital and more data-aligned ways to manufacture drugs. Those three prizes are huge for the pharma sector.”
